The Disney Parks Blog posted a cool little tribute to Adventures Though Inner Space. This is the ride that occupied the space that we now know as Star Tours. Pretty much if you are over 30 then you remember this ride. As a member of the over 30 club I remember this ride very much and have very fond memories of it. We share our memories back in Episode 12 – MAGNIFICATION.
From the DPB: On August 5, 1967, Adventure Thru Inner Space was the Star Tours of its day – a futuristic journey to a place far, far away. Walt Disney partnered with experts from the Monsanto Company to develop an attraction that would take guests to inner space by traveling through a “mighty microscope” and into the realm of a snowflake. To make this daring journey, guests had to “shrink” to the size of a molecule. The concept of guests “shrinking” became the hallmark of the attraction.
Adventure Thru Inner Space remained popular with guests for nearly two decades. The experience that once was futuristic, however, became outdated as science and space travel advanced. So, on September 2, 1985, Adventure Thru Inner Space shrank its last guest to the size of a molecule, making way for a new, inter-galactic adventure.

This last weekend the crews over at Disney California Adventure begin the process of dismantling the Golden Gate Bridge. In it’s place a re-creation of the historic Glendale-Hyperion bridge. This will fit in perfectly when Buena Vista Street opens.
“This new area will bring guests back in time to a classic era in the history of Los Angeles – when Walt Disney first arrived in California. You will practically walk in his footsteps through an environment inspired by iconic Los Angeles buildings and structures of the 1920s and ‘30s, like the Pan Pacific Auditorium (which served as the inspiration for the new park turnstiles that opened on Friday) and the Glendale-Hyperion Bridge”, the Disney Parks Blog posted.
For more the Disney Parks Blog has some writeup’s on both the new bridge and the new entrance.

When we first started The DisGeek Podcast some 7 months ago I was really anxious to get going. I had a computer, I had a microphone and I had a topic. I just needed a place to put it all together. Luckily, I just happen to be a web designer by trade. So I was able to whip up a site pretty quickly without much thought put into it. It was pretty much your standard blog and I knew that it wasn’t exactly what I wanted. But I figured I would see how the show progressed and go from there.
Well, now is the time. To make a site that reflects our personality and has more more Disneyland feel to it. After all it is a Disneyland podcast! Now when we want to feature a post we have a new slideshow instead of a little thingie on the side. You can now listen to the latest episode right from the homepage (as well as the individual episode post). And we can put our latest video right on the homepage as well. It’s less bloggy and more newsie.
Walt Disney has always said that Disneyland will never be complete as long as there is imagination left in the world. I have the same philosophy when it comes to the website. I’ll always be tinkering with it and trying out new ideas. If there is something you think would be cool, let me know!
Thanks and enjoy the new site!

Remixes are disingenuous to me. To me, a remix is a lie. Another artist doing their interpretations of someone else’s music is like taking a copy of the Mona Lisa, changing her face and the color of her clothes and then selling it.
Music is a form of expression, which to my mind means it has to come from the artist one-hundred percent and shouldn’t be messed with once it’s done. I usually don’t bother with remixes on principle. [Read more…]
