Daniel and his wife Laurie visit Universal Studios Hollywood, to attended the annual Halloween Horror Nights. This is not your usual run-of-the-mill DisGeek Podcast episode. Instead we present a recording of Daniel and Laurie AT the event. Here are a few notes about the recording:
- It is not in binaural so headphones are not really needed but may help. I was just me walking and holding my digital audio recorder. It didn’t have a pop filter of any kind so you will occasionally hear a pop and some wind now and then.
- I had a few technical difficulties and you hear those issues. For example on Transformers the first part is a bit over-modulated and it wasn’t until halfway thru the ride did I realize it. There was a time or two where I identically turned off the recording so there may be a weird edit or two.
- Also we walk through the mazes and you get to join us.. The recording of those could be loud, and a bit disturbing. It is halloween horror nights after all. You will hear the occasional swear word. Not from us, but the people around us and some graphic descriptions. I don’t do the best job at describing what I see, but with the audio, you can use your own imagination. So if you are bothered by Horror type stuff, you may want to pass.
- Finally if you plan to attend Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights consider this a spoiler warning.
Here is a video trailer of the event:
I realize that this may not be your cup of tea. But I’m a huge fan of these types of events and of theme parks in general so I thought it would be fun to share this with you. If not, then we will see you next week, with a brand new episode of the DisGeek Podcast. Enjoy the show.
Please let us know in the comments what you thought of the show…

Hey, loved the episode! We are headed out to LA for Thanksgiving & plan on being at UH the day before. The crowds will be packed so was wondering how much impact the front of the line gave you. Was it real busy that night? Did it save a lot of time? Thanks for your input!!

Thanks Papa!
Yeah it was pretty busy. Front of the line was great! If you know it’s going to be busy then I would get it for sure. Especially for the more popular rides like Simpsons and Transformers.

That was a fun listen. I thought the maze or two before the Alice Cooper one was a little blah, but it sounded like you and Laurie thought the same thing. I liked hearing the Transformers ride-through also. I personally liked the sound quality on that. I was in my car listening through the speakers via Bluetooth and I had it cranked and it was rattling the car! I felt like I was on the ride. = ) Also, it seemed like there weren’t the random monsters scattered throughout the park trying to scare you like they do at Knott’s. Is that true, or did it just not come through in the recording?
All in all, I enjoyed it and hope you can do the same thing for Mickey’s Halloween party. The cost for that is so high, I doubt I’ll ever be able to go, so hearing it will help satisfy my curiosity…..or it’ll just make me want to SEE it even worse! LOL

Loved this episode, definitely do more of this type of thing. We were just at the Disneyland Halloween party (Oct. 2) on a trip from our home in Australia. I’d love to hear you cover the Halloween party or Disney Resort in general at Halloween time (or any other time) as well! Get the guys together and go too :o)
